WBCAP Merit List 2026: Mop-Up Round (Phase 2) Details

Following the conclusion of the Phase 1 admission process, the Department of Higher Education, Government of West Bengal, is set to initiate the Mop-Up Round (Phase 2) through the West Bengal Centralised Admission Portal (WBCAP). This phase acts as a crucial opportunity for candidates aiming to secure undergraduate admissions in government and government-aided colleges across the state against the remaining vacant seats.

The official publication of vacant seats will commence on July 7, 2026. Interested applicants must submit their fresh applications or adjust their preferences within the stipulated timeframe to be considered for the Phase 2 institution-wise merit list.

Important Updates:

Who is Eligible for the Mop-Up Round?

The Mop-Up Round is specifically designed for students who fall under the following categories:

  • Fresh Applicants: Candidates who missed the Phase 1 registration window completely.
  • Unallotted Candidates: Students who registered during Phase 1 but were not allotted any seat due to high cut-offs.
  • Missed Deadlines: Candidates who were successfully allotted a seat in Phase 1 but failed to pay the admission fee before the designated deadline (June 15).

How to Check WBCAP Mop-Up Merit List 2026

Once the institution-wise merit list is released on July 19, 2026, candidates can check their allotment status by following these detailed steps:

  1. Visit the official centralised admission website at wbcap.in.
  2. Locate and click on the "Student Login" button on the homepage.
  3. Enter your registered Application Number (or Email) and Password.
  4. Navigate to the "Merit List" or "Allotment Status" section in your candidate dashboard.
  5. Select the University and College you applied for from the dropdown menu.
  6. The college-wise merit list PDF will appear on the screen. Search for your name or application number.
  7. If allotted a seat, proceed to the payment gateway to deposit the semester admission fee before July 22, 2026.

Note: Simply checking your name on the merit list does not confirm admission. The seat is only secured once the online admission fee is successfully paid.

The Upgrade Option in Phase 2

If a candidate receives a seat in the Mop-Up round that is not their top preference, they should still accept the seat by paying the requisite fee and opting for the "Seat Upgrade" feature. The upgraded allocation list will be published on July 26, 2026. This ensures the current seat serves as a safe backup while the system automatically attempts to allocate a higher-preference college based on merit.

Physical Document Verification

After successfully securing admission online and paying the fee, students must undergo physical document verification at their respective allotted colleges between August 2 and August 5, 2026. Candidates should carry original and photocopies of:

  • Class 10 Admit Card (for age proof)
  • Class 12 Marksheet and Certificate
  • Category/Caste Certificate (if applicable)
  • PWD Certificate (if applicable)
  • WBCAP Seat Allotment Letter and Fee Payment Receipt
  • Passport-sized photographs
